Lately I’ve been thinking about what “brand strategy” means now in the age of AI.
AI agents are starting to do what campaigns and omnichannel systems couldn’t - interact with people directly, in real time, with memory, empathy, and reasoning.
What happens when brands are able to “think for themselves”?
Brand strategy can't just define what the brand says or how it looks. It needs to evolve to define how the brand behaves when no one’s watching.
So here are a few predictions - I’d be really interested to hear yours...

| Brand Voice | Brand Conscience |

Predictions for the Evolution of Brand Strategy in the Age of AI, Jed Casey (2025)
1. From "positioning statements" → "behavioural blueprints"
Traditionally, brand strategy defined what we stand for in the market and how we communicate it.
In the AI era, those principles will need to translate into how a brand acts in dynamic, conversations with a market.
That means brand strategy now needs:
- Behavioural principles - how the AI should act in different situations.
- Systems for emotional tone - how it should sound when responding to uncertainty, empathy, or challenge.
- Escalation logic - when it should stop and hand off to a human.
'Brand Books' need to cover more then just colour and taglines - they have to set the conversational and visual frame in a much deeper level of detail.
2. From “key messages” → “knowledge architecture”
A static set of core messages won’t cut it anymore.
AI agents need structured knowledge - validated facts, claims, and reasoning paths they can draw on in real time.
So brand strategy now needs to ensure:
- The source data is clear, validated, and consistent.
- The AI knows the boundaries of what it can and can’t say.
- There’s a governance loop for updates, audits, and version control.
Your brand voice becomes an algorithmic expression of your evidence base.
3. From “brand voice” → “brand conscience”
In the past, brand lexicon defined how the brand sounds.
Now we must define how it behaves.
Pharma brands will need to encode:
- Principles for fairness, bias, and transparency.
- How to handle emotionally sensitive or high-stakes queries.
- How to express empathy without overstepping medical or compliance lines.
In other words, your brand’s ethics become part of its architecture.
Brand strategy will include moral parameters, not just linguistic ones.
4. From “campaign playbooks” → “experience systems”
When every interaction is personalised and continuous, “campaigns” stop being the unit of work.
Instead, marketers will need to design systems that learn - feedback loops where AI, content, and customer signals evolve together.
That means:
- Continuing to move away from “launch and leave” campaigns to continuous improvement models.
- Defining what data matters most for learning and iteration.
- Building small, cross-functional teams that can adapt the system in real time.
This is an area I feel confident many companies are focusing their efforts today which is a good start.
5. From “creative expression” → “cognitive design”
The creative brief of the future might look less like “Develop three concepts” and more like “Design how our intelligence expresses curiosity, humility, or care.”
The marketer’s creative partner will be conversation designers, AI trainers, and behavioural scientists - people who help make the brand feel alive, safe and a true reflection of the brand.
So what does this all mean for brand strategy?
If I were writing a purpose statement for brand strategy in the AI era, it might be:
“To design the intelligence, behaviour, and values through which the brand earns trust and facilitates customer actions at scale.”
I think that’s the core of it - marketing becomes less about message and narrative control across channels, and more about behavioural consistency across intelligent systems.
Regardless of where this leads, I'm excited to watch this unfold over the next few months!
